GATE 37: FRIENDSHIP
Gate 37 in Human Design, Friendship, is the Solar Plexus half of the Channel of Community and part of the Cross of Planning (37/40 | 9/16), the cycle Ra Uru Hu said shaped the world from 1615 to 2027.
What does Gate 37 mean in Human Design?
Ra Uru Hu, using the I Ching name The Family, taught that the 37 is the single Solar Plexus gate with a line to the Ego. It needs loyalty, bonds and support, and gives back the warmest feel-good of the Solar Plexus. The same affection can turn cold once its needs are met. For a 37 every relationship is a potential arrangement, and every 37 hunts for the perfect deal, with a lover or with God. Being emotional, it never sees an arrangement clearly in the moment.
Why is the 37-40 called the channel of the bargain?
Ra called the 37 the mouth and the 40 the stomach. The Ego agrees to work if it is treated well and left time off, and out of that trade he derived the pleasure principle of modern societies: festivals, entertainment, sex that is not about reproduction. In the mutation lectures he added that the bargain exists only because of the emotional wave; contracts are an attempt to pin the wave down.
What is the Cross of Planning?
The Cross of Planning combines 37/40 with 9/16. In the Global Cycles talk Ra described it as the global cycle since 1615, rooted in the 37-40: community, services, the global village, bureaucracy, with the 16 adding skills and the 9 focus on detail. People born on this cross, he said, are at home in the current era.
What happens to Gate 37 after 2027?
Ra taught that the cycle moves on to the Sleeping Phoenix, an individual cross whose frequency tells you to look after yourself rather than bargain with your neighbor. In the 2027 Mutation Seminar the 37-40 is stage three: the mutation from the 6 reaches it, the wave falls away and with it the need for a bargain. On Tape 5A he described what is left as community held together to preserve its members, emerging slowly over the first century.
